Kicking off our list of the best Marvel games, Marvel Snap sees you wielding powerful decks containing heroes and villains against other players.

Matches are swift-paced and typically last 5 minutes or less, allowing you to earn rewards quickly while completing challenges and upgrading cards.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a tactical turn-based strategy game that comes courtesy of XCOM developer Firaxis Games.

In it, you take on the role of an original hero called The Hunter and fight alongside Marvel heroes to stop the malicious queen Lillith from carrying out a nefarious plot.

This is done using a card-based combat system that restricts heroes’ abilities to those housed within decks created by the player.

Outside of battles, the game features a central area where you can interact with characters to upgrade gear, unlock new abilities, and explore side stories.

Moving along, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a third-person shooter that focuses on the titular eccentric team of quirky heroes.

In it, players assume control over Star-Lord as he leads his unusual crew across the cosmos stirring up trouble and molding the fate of the galaxy.

Throughout the journey, players will get to know the ins and outs of each guardian as they learn fresh skills and tag-team beatdown attacks.

Following its release, GOTG has won several accolades for Game of the Year and is regarded by many as one of the finest games of 2021.

Insomniac Games really knocked it out of the park when crafting Spider-Man‘s vast world and web-swinging locomotion.

This is further complemented by a wealth of collectibles, side missions, and secrets to discover as you make your way around NYC combating crime.

The story follows Peter Parker on a cinematic comic book-inspired adventure that pits him against some of his mightiest adversaries.

Since its release, Marvel’s Spider-Man has received overwhelmingly favorable reviews and was even crowned “Best Super Hero Game of All Time” by numerous outlets.

Functioning as a standalone expansion to Marvel’s Spider-Man, Miles Morales shifts its focus to the emerging crime-fighting teenager.

With the metropolis in need of a champion, Miles steps up to don the mantle of Spider-Man while coming to grips with his own personal struggles.

The sequel features a revamped open world with enhanced traversal and combat that makes for a superhero dream come true.

Aside from being well-received by critics and fans, the game stands out for being the initial Spider-Man game to launch alongside a fresh console.

With Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Raven Software sought to resurrect the dormant franchise and expose a new generation of players to Ultimate Alliance.

Reminiscent of subterranean-crawling RPGs like Diablo, it sees you assembling a team from 30+ familiar heroes and villains to battle across Marvel locations.

While the game has its share of technical issues, no doubt due to the Switch’s hardware limitations, there’s a lot to enjoy for newcomers and existing fans.

This includes separate stat progression for each character along with unique abilities, bonuses, and synergies depending on your squad’s composition.

The first Marvel mobile game we’re suggesting is Marvel Future Revolution, which transpires during an event called “The Convergence” in the comics.

This causes multiple alternate-reality Earths to collide with each other, bringing different versions of Marvel heroes and villains to our world.

The game is billed as an extensive-world RPG from mobile developer Netmarble, who also created Marvel Future Fight in 2015, with both games sharing many similarities.

Despite being designed solely for mobile, Future Revolution features impressive 3D graphics as well as fluid combat and extensive character customization.

Another portable entry in Marvel’s extensive game catalog, Marvel Puzzle Quest eventually made its way to Xbox and PlayStation consoles in 2015.

Modeled after the popular Puzzle Quest games, it combines match-three puzzle-solving with beloved Marvel characters.

This includes distinctive combo attacks, iridescent power-ups, and tactical abilities inspired by the source material and various hero/villain powers. 

If you’re the kind of player who appreciates Marvel’s legacy, then you’ll love exploring Marvel Puzzle Quest’s enormous roster of characters totaling in the hundreds.

If one Guardians game isn’t adequate for you, we’re also recommending Telltale’s take on the comic book (and now film) franchise with GOTG: The Telltale Series.

Presented as an episodic journey game, it follows the Guardians as they seek out a powerful artifact known as the Eternity Forge.

Gameplay focuses on exploration, interacting with objects, making choices, and the occasional rapid event action sequence.

It’s most enjoyable for fans of the 2021 Guardians game as they have similar dialogue choices and make use of the Marvel films and comics.

While most of us won’t ever attain the same level of wealth or innovation as Tony Stark, we can still play pretend in Marvel’s Iron Man VR.

Released in July 2020 by Sony, the game was created by developer Camouflaj solely for the PlayStation 4’s VR peripheral.

In it, players step into Iron Man’s suit for a soaring adventure in the clouds complete with advanced weaponry and a first-person POV.

The game does an exceptional job of leveraging the VR format by immersing you with responsive controls and the occasional sardonic comment from Mr. Stark himself.

Meant for gamers of all ages, Lego Marvel Super Heroes is a massive comic book adventure where players can control 180+ Marvel characters.

The story opens with our heroes preventing Loki, Galactus, and a host of other Marvel villains from assembling a powerful super-weapon capable of destroying the world.

Gameplay is reminiscent of other Lego titles but considerably benefits from the diversity of powers found throughout its superhero roster.

The game currently holds the title of “Best-selling Lego Game” and even spawned a successor, Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2, which we also endorse.

Another cherished entry in one of Marvel’s oldest series, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a tag-team fighting game where players can duke it out.

It’s a standout entry for its high-risk, high-reward combo-based gameplay as well as striking visuals and expanded roster worthy of the title “Ultimate.”

Leveraging both Marvel and Capcom’s extensive catalog of characters, the game allows you to mix and match heroes and villains on your quest for victory.

While Marvel and Capcom have collaborated to release subsequent iterations, Ultimate MVC 3 is still affectionately remembered as the definitive Marvel fighter.

Of all the Marvel characters to receive a standalone game, a quick-paced beat ’em up starring Deadpool is the last thing we thought we’d ever see.

Fortunately, it falls under the category of good Marvel games despite the combat and overall gameplay feeling a bit too monotonous at times.

However, the game’s saving grace is its writing, particularly Deadpool’s witty dialog and exaggerated reactions to events throughout the story.

Although Deadpool is substantially older than many of the games highlighted at the peak of this list, it was ported to PS4 and Xbox One in 2015.

Upcoming Marvel Games

There are a handful of forthcoming Marvel games currently in development that are expected to release in 2025 and the years that follow.

Below, we’ve highlighted the most awaited Marvel game releases to keep an eye out for updates in the upcoming months.

After the triumph that was Marvel’s Spider-Man and Mile Morales, Insomniac has been given the task of adapting another iconic Marvel character, Wolverine.

Billed as a standalone experience, Marvel’s Wolverine will feature an emotionally-charged narrative complemented by cutting-edge gameplay that will push the PS5 to its limits.

While there have been several Wolverine-related games throughout the years, it’ll be fascinating to see Insomniac’s take on the surly, adamantium-infused hero.

For now, we’ll just have to hold our breath and wait until further details are revealed at a later date.

Last but not least, Insomniac is also diligently at work on a direct sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man that will come exclusively to PS5.

At the moment, little is known regarding plot or gameplay but we can confirm that both Peter Parker and Miles Morales will be continuing their roles as Spider-Man…or is it Spider-Men?

Furthermore, Kraven the Hunter, Venom, and likely a multitude of other recognizable Marvel villains are expected to make an appearance in some manner.

Similar to the original, we anticipate Spider-Man 2 will fully utilize the PS5 hardware to achieve faster load times, smoother performance, more intricate environments.
